PRWeb Podcast Gets Ready for the Remix

PRWeb podcastPRWeb, a leading Internet press release service, has announced that, effective today, all podcasts delivered through PRWeb’s podcasting service are released under the Creative Commons Sampling Plus 1.0 license. This license is being made retroactively to all current and archived podcast content.Under the terms of the new license individuals are permitted to sample, mash-up, or otherwise creatively transform this work for commercial or noncommercial purposes, and perform, display, and distribute copies of this whole work for noncommercial purposes (e.g., file-sharing or noncommercial webcasting).

The Sampling Plus 1.0 license opens the door to more flexible use; people making reuse of the work need to attribute the source of the sampled content.“We decided to replace the more restrictive Creative Commons BY-NC-ND 2.5 with the Sampling Plus version in response to requests from the podcasting community,” stated Andrew Schlichting, Web 2.0 Content Manager for PRWeb.

PodSage Podcast Client Updated to Version 2.0

Dragon Crest International (DCI) has announced the release of Podsage version 2, an update to their free Windows-based podcast search engine and player.

“We consulted with Podcasters (podcast producers) throughout the world,” said DCI’s David Jorrell. “Major emphasis was given to ensuring a visually pleasing and intuitive interface without loss in richness of features.”

“One such feature are the ‚ÄòShow Notes‚Äô that accompany each podcast episode (the actual show that is listened to or viewed.) These are presented as the Podcaster originally intended ‚Äì many other players, even the more popular ones tend to disregard this. Now, for example, educationalists can provide direct links to supporting documents,” adds Jorrell.

Apple Intros New U2 iPod

U2 iPodApple today introduced the new iPod U2 Special Edition as part of a continued partnership between Apple, U2 and Universal Music Group (UMG).The new U2 iPod is based on the fifth generation 30GB iPod and holds up to 7,500 songs, 25,000 photos or over 75 hours of video and features a distinctive, all-black stainless steel enclosure, red Click Wheel and custom engraving of U2 band member signatures. U2 iPod customers will also receive 30 minutes of exclusive U2 video downloadable from the iTunes Music Store.

“We’re thrilled to continue working with one of the greatest bands in the world to bring U2 fans a special edition of the world’s best digital music player,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of worldwide iPod Product Marketing.

The U2 iPod features Apple’s patent pending Auto-Sync technology that automatically downloads digital music, podcasts, photos, audiobooks, home movies, music videos and popular television shows onto the iPod and keeps them up-to-date whenever the iPod is plugged into a Mac or Windows computer using USB 2.0. The U2 iPod features up to 14 hours of battery life for music playback.

Chrysalis Expanding Podcast Services to Meet Demand

UK media company Chrysalis Radio is planning to launch a podcast production service to create tailored programs for its clients. Chrysalis Content will build on existing podcasts from clients including Honda and AOL and create content such as city travel guides and target fields like fashion and beauty.

Research conducted by Chrysalis Radio of 1,000 podcast subscribers revealed that users preferred to download podcasts at home, with many claiming to listen to the material more than once.

David Lloyd, managing director of LBC, said: “This research suggests once again a renewed appetite for talk, and confirms that people appear to source that content from trusted brands like LBC to whom podcasters remain hugely loyal.”

Kiptronic Announces Ad Network Growth

According to the company, the network has grown to include:

  • 130 Advertisers
  • Over 450 podcasters representing 15 million monthly downloads
  • Daily growth of over four podcasters since the system launched

Veotag Adds Hyperlinks to Audio and Video Files

Veotag is a new service, in beta, that lets you display clickable text, called “veotags” within an audio or video file.

“Veotagging” is designed to let you make tables of contents, chapter headings and menus; add tags, transcripts and comments to enhance the user’s experience; and even to let you tag audio and video files you find on the web.

The service is not a podcasting service, but could be used to deliver bookmarked media content via your site for people that view or listen to podcast content online.

New Site Wants to Bury Your Podcast

PerSecondPodcast, a new site created by three Yale University students, is offering a new approach to promoting your podcast.

The site, which kicked off June 1st, is selling advertising space in its podcasts by the second. Ads will be included in one of four podcasts hosted at the site. The site plans to make the audio available via a podcast, submit it for radio play and save it to iPod “time capsules” which will buried at the completion of the project.

Anyone can contribute to the site, with music, advertisements, blogs, stories, rants or any other audio. Rates start at $4/second.

The three students, Matt Brimer ’09, Joey Citarrella ’08 and Brad Hargreaves ‘08, plan to include voting for popular audio clips, clothing tie-ins, and the release of a series of compilation albums featuring an eclectic mix of the best audio submissions.
